fort fisher aquarium north carolina aquariums kure beach, nc
lobby renovations including: - new curved service desk - etched glass panel waterfall wall - new finishes to improve entry experience security upgrades ADA upgrades in lobby and adjacent spaces
The original lobby, a victim of "value engineering" when first built, was a dark and unimpressive introduction to one of North Carolina's more popular public aquariums. Our goal was to soften the hard, angular edges while improving not only the aesthetics but the functionality of the space. Entry doors were relocated and replaced. Curvilinear forms and shapes were introduced to "soften" and hide the hard edges as well as to introduce a more aquatic feeling to visitors. And finally, a custom built "waterwall" art installation was included with water cascading over etched glass panels.
